What led you to do the work you do?

My dad, who encouraged and enjoyed intelligent, respectful debate.  He led me to recognize that becoming an advocate for others was the perfect blend of fact, opinion and problem-solving for my dream career.

Describe your ideal client:

It really depends on the matter. For smaller businesses or nonprofits, I work directly with the chief executive and function much like in-house counsel. In larger scale settings, my client might be a C-level executive or even their own in-house counsel, with whom I collaborate to get the best result.

What situation or circumstances might lead a prospective client to your services?

Existence or possibility of a business opportunity or conflict requiring legal finesse, advice, or aggression – whether in a transactional, partnership or employment context.

What’s the best way for colleagues to refer prospective clients to you?

Email works just fine, or a LinkedIn introduction if they want to be fancy.

How does a typical engagement begin?

Usually with a call or meeting to define the level of risk and contributing factors. My depth of experience helps me get to the bottom of most matters quickly and efficiently.

What services might a typical engagement include?

It varies, of course, but might include review of agreements or contracts, advising on next steps or preparing to take a stand toward litigation, with the goal of a favorable settlement in the process.

What might you be doing if you hadn’t pursued this career?

I enjoy mentoring and sharing my passion for law, so teaching at some level has always intrigued me.

What about your work gives you greatest satisfaction?

Seeing my client progress from frustrated or frightened to empowered and confident will never get old for me.

What might your colleagues be surprised to learn about you?

I am an aggressive avenger in conference or trial, but I’m a shameless softie when it comes to my friends and staff.

What do you enjoy doing most when you’re not serving your clients? 

I LOVE to travel. And I’m finally learning to play golf. It’s so satisfying to hike around in the fresh air, smack things with sticks and indulge in tacos afterward!
