Insights

What led you to do the work you do?

I worked as a Program Supervisor in Mental Health Services for years, and moonlighted in comedy. I had the opportunity to teach workforce development classes with a focus on healthy workplaces and slowly began incorporating improvisation into my teachings. The response has been great and I continue to use improv to teach development classes/workshops.

Describe your ideal client:

Manager who works directly with a team in a small to medium-sized company (10-249 employees), with decision making authority looking to strengthen their leadership skills, create a stronger workplace culture, retain employees, or deal with breakdowns in team communication.

What situation or circumstances might lead a prospective client to your services?

Signals of poor communication: employee turnover, breakdown in team communication, disinterested, employees. Or an organization is searching for a fun and meaningful activity for team building.

What’s the best way for colleagues to refer prospective clients to you?

An introduction email.

How does a typical engagement begin?

A free consultation over the phone. Less than 30 mins to learn about the team and what best fit before developing a proposal.

What services might a typical engagement include?

One day interactive workshop, series of interactive workshops over multiple days, or ongoing leadership training.

What might you be doing if you hadn’t pursued this career?  Oh, I don’t know… there’s a few options. I could see myself being the lead singer of a wedding band, running a bed and breakfast in Nevada City, or being an Organizational Psychologist.

What about your work gives you greatest satisfaction?  Witnessing people have an “ah-ha” moment learning about how they can adopt a more improvisational mindset. Because no matter how hard we try we cannot control everything and everyone around us, improv helps deal with letting go of control while moving forward towards our goals.

What might your colleagues be surprised to learn about you?

That I’m a bullet journal junkie and I LOVE office supplies and pens!

What do you enjoy doing most when you’re not serving your clients?

Spending time with my family, going out to dinner at new places, watching live theater/comedy, day trips, and road trips.
